II: Working Principle of the 5L Titanium Alloy Internal Mixer
When the 5L titanium alloy internal mixer is in operation, the two rotors rotate relative to each other, clamping the titanium alloy powder and binder from the feed port and bringing them into the roll gap, where they are subjected to extrusion and shearing by the rotors. After passing through the roll gap, they hit the sharp edge of the lower plunger and are divided into two parts, which return to the area above the roll gap along the gaps between the front and rear chamber walls and the rotors. During one cycle of flow around the rotors, the titanium alloy powder and binder are subjected to shearing and friction everywhere, causing the temperature of the titanium alloy powder to rise sharply and its viscosity to decrease, thereby enhancing the wettability of the titanium alloy powder on the binder surface and ensuring full contact between the titanium alloy powder and the binder surface. The binder agglomerates pass through the gaps between the rotors, between the rotors and the upper and lower plungers, and the inner wall of the mixing chamber along with the metal powder, where they are sheared and broken, enveloped by the stretched and deformed rubber, and stabilized in the broken state. At the same time, the ribs on the rotors cause the metal powder to move axially along the rotors, providing a stirring and mixing effect to ensure uniform distribution of the binder in the titanium alloy powder. Through repeated shearing and breaking of the binder, repeated deformation and recovery of the titanium alloy powder, and continuous stirring by the rotor ribs, the binder is uniformly dispersed in the titanium alloy powder to a certain degree of dispersion.
III: Operating Method of the 5L Titanium Alloy Internal Mixer
1. Calculate the batch mixing amount and actual formula based on the capacity of the mixer's mixing chamber and the appropriate fill factor (0.6–0.7);
2. Accurately weigh the amounts of various raw materials in the formula according to the actual formula, place the titanium alloy powder and minor ingredients (binders such as POM, PP, PE, etc.) separately, and arrange them in order on the storage rack;
3. Turn on the power switch and heating switch of the mixer to preheat it, while checking whether the air pressure, water pressure, and voltage meet the process requirements, and whether the temperature measurement system, timing device, power system indicators, and recording are normal;
4. After preheating the mixer, stabilize it for a period of time and prepare for mixing;
5. Lift the upper plunger, feed the metal powder into the mixer from the feed port, lower the upper plunger, and mix for 1 minute;
6. Lift the upper plunger, add the minor ingredients, lower the upper plunger, and mix for 1.5 minutes;
7. Lift the upper plunger, add POMPP, lower the upper plunger, and mix for 3 minutes;
8. Lift the upper plunger, add the liquid softener, lower the upper plunger, and mix for 1.5 minutes;
The test report for each batch of mixing process in the internal mixer should record: temperature at the start of mixing, mixing time, rotor speed, upper plunger pressure, discharge temperature, power consumption, the difference between the mass of the mixed material and the total mass of raw materials, and the type of internal mixer.
Note: When starting the mixing experiment, first mix a batch with the same formula as the test material to adjust the working state of the internal mixer before正式 mixing; for the same batch of mixed material, the control conditions and mixing time of the internal mixer should remain the same.
